Greetings, this is Pastor David Bass at New Geneva Orthodox Presbyterian Church with a moment of truth where we challenge you to think through an important issue of life and faith. Today, the United States of America is fattening herself for a day of slaughter, according to the Apostle James, as the Apostle James so inimitably puts it, even as a pig gorges itself in the weeks and months prior to his butchering. America, you are fat and prosperous and rich and getting richer. President Trump has bragged about how well the economy is performing.

The stock market rose in nine of the first 10 months of his administration, a record that no president can match. The market has added some $6.9 trillion in value since he took office. Companies who fled American shores in the face of NAFTA, which was an unfair trade deal for the United States, if ever there was one, and the Obama economy, which choked us with regulation, inflation, taxation, and burdensome debt. These companies are returning in droves, repatriating billions of dollars to the economy. Unemployment is at some of its lowest points in 17 years, especially in the black and Hispanic communities.

Wages are rising and a slew of companies are handing out bonuses to their workers? While corrupt politicians like Nancy Pelosi have become millionaires in Washington, D.C. at our expense, they call this crumbs or peanuts, right? A thousand dollar bonus is not so to the wage earner who needs it to make that next house or car payment. No. What is truly crumbs is the welfare, the food stamps, the Obama phones, that dealers in dependency, the peanut peddlers like Pelosi proposed to substitute for self-reliance in a strong economy in which self-reliant people can prosper without limits.

Also, the comprehensive tax bill passed by Congress has also stimulated investment by business and put more of what a worker earns into his own pocket rather than the coffers of Washington, D.C. All of these things are objective measures of prosperity. And anecdotally, we know that individual Americans are doing well, too, in prospering. I can see it in the families in my church, in my own extended family, in my community in Teton Valley. Does this mean we have arrived, America? Does this mean we bask in God's favor?

I would caution anyone who acknowledges the living God of the Bible from assuming that God is pleased with us just because we are economically prospering for the moment. Because the record is clear that when we do so without Christ as the center of our hearts and endeavors, we know that prosperity is an illusion and short-lived. We are merely fattening ourselves in a day of slaughter. John puts it this way to the church of Laodicea, and it's us, too. He says, for you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked, unquote.

As I pointed out to you last week, what has characterized America in the past at our best, and that to which we must return is Christ for our spiritual lives together, the Constitution for our political lives together, and capitalism for our economic lives together. And that which we war against today is secularism emptying our spiritual lives together, statism tyrannizing our political lives together, and socialism impoverishing our economic lives together, the three C's versus the three S's.

And while we see some very encouraging signs in our economic lives together, as capitalism has taken off the leash and allowed to run, we have yet to return as a nation to the Constitution, and most of all, back to Christ as our national spiritual life. How we need Christ at this present time, dear listener. The church in America today is precisely like the church in Laodicea. We prance around, thinking we are rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, but we fail to realize that we are wretched, pitiable, blind, and naked.

Indeed, there are many individual Christians laboring with all other might to live lives in dedication to Christ, and who work to turn things around in the United States of America. But what have we allowed to transpire in our country, dear listener? Though we might be individually Christians and trying hard to live Christian lives, we are nevertheless responsible for the state of our nation, and we will suffer the consequences of God's judgment upon her, if and when he brings it upon us. Isaiah puts it this way, for our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us.

For our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities, unquote. Yet I'm not altogether certain that the United States knows its iniquities. We seem to have become complacent about them. For example, most egregiously, we recently celebrated, if we can call it that, the 45th anniversary of the iconic Supreme Court decision, Roe versus Wade, which dictated legislation from the judicial branch of our government, the law that legalized abortion in America. And since then, even the abortion-friendly Guttmacher Institute estimates that over 60 million children have died from abortion since that 1973 decision.

Please, fellow American, stop what you are doing for the moment and consider that cold, objective statistic, and think of the human implications of it. What is the sound of 60 million children's voices crying out from the graves for love, for life, for justice, for mercy? Stalin famously, cynically said about his butchery of the Russian people, the death of one man is a tragedy, the deaths of a million is a statistic. Oh, dear listener, as Americans have slowly, inevitably grappled with the bloody implications of Roe versus Wade, minds have begun to change over the decades. The Supreme Court case is waning in its justification.

The advent, for example, of four-dimensional ultrasound is adding to Roe's plight. It has provided a window to the womb, showing the humanity of the unborn child. It's hard to argue against a right to life to a baby who is smiling or giving a thumbs up in an ultrasound video, isn't it? And then there's the testimony, too, of the women, for example, of the Silent No More awareness campaign. The Silent No More awareness campaign.

This group of women who had abortions but who now regret them. Consider, for example, Wendy from Pennsylvania, who had an abortion when she was 19 years old. She says, and I quote her, it took 35 years of my life to reconcile that one foolish mistake. Remember the abortion lie that promised to help me forget about my baby and go on with my life like nothing happened? Now, after 35 gut-wrenching years, I can go on only because I found forgiveness and peace in the truth, not the lie.

Unquote from Wendy. She came to Christ and found forgiveness in him. Only then could she go on. Wendy was haunted by the ghost of her unborn child, gestating that little baby peacefully in her womb, otherwise the safest place in the universe for children. The baby was moving, flexing, sucking his thumb, doing somersaults, and giving her what Wendy said felt like an occasional martial arts kick to the abdomen.

Much of this kind of activity is captured in 4D ultrasound, confirming by picture what every mother knows by experience in the core of her own body and being. There is a tiny person in there. I remember as a young father lying on my wife's tummy while she was pregnant, feeling each of our children moving in her womb. What an awe-inspiring feeling. I'm always reminded of the simpatico between Mary and Elizabeth.

For example, when they met, both of them pregnant, Mary with Jesus and Elizabeth with John, when Mary came to visit her cousin Elizabeth, she greeted her fat with child. And the Bible says, and when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, unquote. Oh, every mother knows that feeling. But 4D ultrasound also illustrates the pure evil that stalks the womb.

It chronicles the butchery as well of abortion, not as a 60 million person statistic, but one child by one child by one child, each little person being slaughtered one by one. Saline solution, for example, burns and sears the baby like acid in the womb when it's injected as he or she recoils with every cell of the body. And if we had sound, we would hear the scream formed by the tiny little mouth.

Also, the blade inserted into the womb that slices and dices that little baby in her mother's womb is often a live sacrifice, a blade which the little person instinctively tries to ward off with arms and hands or kick at with little legs, but which limbs are cut in pieces instead. If this crass brutality were not enough, we also have the macabre sight of the Frankenstein grave diggers at Planned Parenthood, profiting off of the slaughter as they cynically sell these same baby body parts to interested parties.

For example, the Center for Medical Progress famously captured Dr. Deborah Nakatola of California Planned Parenthood describing over gourmet lunch and wine what was available for purchase. And I quote Dr. Nakatola. She says a lot of people want intact hearts these days. Yesterday was the first time she, that is a customer of Dr. Nakatola's, said people wanted lungs. And then, like I said, always as many intact livers as possible.

People just want, some people want lower extremities too. I mean, that's easy. And on and on and on she goes. There's even an online pull-down menu for brain, for heart, for heart with veins and arteries attached, for lungs, liver, liver and thymus, spleen, and large intestine, and so on, ad nauseum. The order form also specifies the gestational range from four weeks upwards.

Oh, judgment is in store for America, dear listener, because we're not talking about cattle and swine or sheep. We're talking about human body parts, the tissues of once living, breathing babies in their mother's wombs. And nothing is being done about it, dear listener. Our governors and legislators and judges are political cowards and demons themselves, giving their tacit assent to it by all their inaction. Or open advocacy as well.

It's easier to go along with the status quo, isn't it, than stand against it? Oh, we could, if we wanted to, we could end abortion tomorrow. No, we could end abortion today if we had the national will for it. But the blood of their victims, nevertheless, cries out. Jeremiah puts it this way.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. Because they have filled this place with the blood of innocence and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal. Unquote. We have filled America with the blood of innocence, dear listeners, and we will pay the price in judgment. And as for Planned Parenthood, Jeremiah speaks to people like you as well.

He says, you have eyes and heart only for your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence. Unquote. With every abortion, America, you are fattening yourself for a day of slaughter, as the Apostle James puts it, making of yourself more and more a juicy, well-fed beast of butchery for God to make a swift end of you. And your sin, when his patience runs out and judgment falls, blood is on our hands, repentance is demanded, and without it we will perish and fall under the mighty hand of God in his retribution.

America, you are at present a beast fattening yourself for a day of slaughter, flattering yourself that God does not see and will not judge and will only continue to indulge you in your sin. Oh, America, if this is your will, go ahead. Gorge yourself on your riches and plenty. You will only be a fat sacrifice on the day of judgment. It will be, as Jeremiah puts it, pull them out like sheep for the slaughter and set them apart for the day of slaughter.

Unquote. But it is not only abortion that invites God's judgment, dear listener. America is also guilty of, for example, child sex trafficking. Oh, I have only recently learned about this in the last year or so and how abhorrent, how terrifying it is when I think that indeed, as Jefferson God says, God is indeed a just God. America is guilty of child sex trafficking, more so than any other single country in the world.

Oh, these little children are called little Barbies. Children, young girls, some as young as nine years old, are being bought and sold for sex in America. The average age for a young woman being sold for sex is now 13 years old. This is, as the Daily Sheeple puts it, America's dirty little secret. Much of what you hear in the next minute or so is taken from the Daily Sheeple, an article there detailing much of this.

According to the United, I'm sorry, according to USA Today, the paper USA Today, adults purchase children for sex at least two and a half million times a year in the United States. It's estimated that at least 100,000 children, think of this, 100,000 children, girls and boys are bought and sold for sex in the United States every year, with as many as 300,000 children in danger of being trafficked each year. Some of these children are forcefully abducted, some others are runaways picked up, and still others are sold into the system by relatives and acquaintances. What is the horror of this, dear listener? Who buys a child for sex?

Consider this horror, dear listener. Who buys a child for sex? The journalist Tim Swarons, who spent more than a year investigating the sex trade in America, he says that otherwise ordinary men from all walks of life buy children for sex. They could be your co-worker, doctor, pastor, or spouse, he says. Oh, then in order to avoid detection, in some cases aided and abetted by the police, there's so much money involved in this that corruption from top to bottom ensues.

In order to avoid detection and then cater to male buyers demand for sex with different women, pimps, and gangs, and crime syndicates work to have turned sex trafficking into a highly mobile enterprise, too, to avoid detection, with trafficked girls, boys, and women constantly being moved from city to city, state to state, and even country to country. So there's no doubt about this. It is a highly profitable, highly organized, and highly sophisticated sex trafficking business that operates in America, in towns, large and small. Judgment is going to fall on America if this continues.

It rakes in upwards of nine and a half billion dollars a year in the U.S. alone by abducting and selling young girls for sex. In America, supposedly Christian America, every year the girls being bought and sold get younger and younger, too. The average age of those being trafficked is 13. Oh, it is the head of a group that combats that trafficking point. He says, let's think about what average means.

That means there are children younger than 13. That means eight, nine, and ten-year-olds, unquote. Where did this appetite, dear listener, for girls come from? Look around you. Oh, look around you, dear listener.

Young girls have been sexualized for years now in music videos, billboards, television ads, clothing stores. Marketers have created a demand for young flesh and a ready supply of over-sexualized children. Jessica Bennett, who wrote a series of articles for Newsweek magazine, she puts it this way. All it takes is one look at certain social media photos of teens to see examples. If they aren't imitating porn they've actually seen, they're imitating the porn-inspired images and poses they've absorbed elsewhere.

Latex, corsets, and stripper heels. Once the fashion of porn stars have made their way into middle and high school, unquote. Oh, Benetton goes on to characterize it in other places, too, as the pornification of a generation. That summarizes it very succinctly, doesn't it? That America is experiencing a pornification of an entire generation.

Oh, dear listener, there will be an accounting for these and other degrading crimes and iniquities, America. Do not pretend that God does not see. Do not go whistling past the graveyard as if the grim reaper is not stalking you and your fellow countrymen. Jeremiah, the prophet, puts it this way concerning Israel, but it's just as true for the nations of the world. He says, am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away?

Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him, declares the Lord? Do I not fill heaven and earth, declares the Lord? Oh, yes, dear listener. Your iniquities testify against you, America. The Lord sees and knows and will judge in a time and manner of his own choosing.

God is patient. God is patient and he is loving and he bids us to return to him. For example, Joel says, yet even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and with mourning, and rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and he relents over disaster. Unquote.

Oh, America, I bid you to this today. Return to the Lord with all of your heart, because his patience does have an end. When it becomes apparent, it is apparent that a people will not repent and return. He calls us to repentance. He calls us to return to him in true repentance, and if not, then judgment will ensue in a time and place of his own choosing.

The prophet Ezekiel puts it this way. When God's patience runs out, he says, thus says the Lord God, disaster after disaster, behold, it comes. An end has come. The end has come. It is awakened against you.

Behold, it comes. Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come. The day is near. A day of tumult and not of joyful shouting on the mountains.

Now I will soon pour out my wrath upon you and spend my anger against you and judge you according to your ways. And I will punish you for all your abominations. And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways. While your abominations are still in your midst, then you will know that I am the Lord who strikes.

Unquote. Terrible judgment is coming to America. When God's patience comes to an end, so do the people. And there is no remedy. There is no turning back.

Even though America turns to repent, at that point, God will not listen. He says in Jeremiah, for example, Jeremiah 14, he says to the prophet, the Lord has said to me, do not pray for the welfare of this people. Though they fast, I will not hear their cry. And though they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.

Unquote. Oh, America, this is your future. Unless you repent, it will be sword, famine, and pestilence. America, you have some prosperity and goodness returned to you in this administration, in our economy, in these days. You are practicing capitalism, certainly with great eagerness, an abounding profit, and you think that God loves you because of it.

But you fail to return to the Constitution and, most importantly, to Christ. Dear listener, dear America, you require Christ for our spiritual lives together. You require the Constitution for our political lives together and capitalism for our economic lives together. Instead, America, you love your idols and you worship them. You hail Satan.

You confess Allah. You make offerings to Shiva and the numberless gods of Hinduism. And you set yourself in the center of the universe by proclaiming your atheism as if there were no God. Just as Israel was littered with the foreign gods in all of the high places of the land forgetting her God, so America is littered with the idols of the world, having forgotten her Lord, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, who is over all of these gods.

The Apostle Paul puts it this way in Ephesians. He says that Christ is far above all rule and authority and power and dominion. And all these names in the Greek are used in magical spells and incantations in the ancient world. He goes on to say that Christ is above every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come. Unquote.

America, you are at present a beast fattening yourself for a day of slaughter. America, you are flattering yourself that God does not see and will not judge and will only continue to indulge you in your sin. Oh, America, if this is your heart, if this is your attitude, go ahead. Gorge yourself on your riches and your plenty. You will only be a fat sacrifice on the day of judgment.

And it will be, as Jeremiah puts it, pull them out like sheep for the slaughter and set them apart for the day of slaughter. Dear America, no, have we reached the point of no return? My heart grieves for my country. I love America. I love her principles of Christ for our spiritual lives together, the constitution for our political lives together, and capitalism for our economic lives together.

But we have frittered this heritage away. Will God judge and not relent? Has he reached that point of no return? Indeed, when he will judge without mercy? Oh, this none of us knows.

I certainly do not. It is reserved for the secret counsel of God. Only he knows. What we must do, however, is what Joel counsels us to do. That is, return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and he relents over disaster.

Unquote. Let us pray that God is still in this stage of his covenant relationship with us. Let us plead with him. Do this individually, brothers and sisters, and then exhort your fellow countrymen to do this on a national scale, on a national level, that we might seek the mercy of the Lord God and turn back his terrible judgment upon us because there is blood and there will be blood demanded in requisite payment for the blood that we have shed, the blood of the innocents. Only a return to Christ for our spiritual lives together will stay his hand of judgment and return us then to great blessing.
